Brief

To promote the launch of action movie “Extraction 2,” Netflix Malaysia could’ve relied solely on the star power of Chris Hemsworth. But in an age where even A-list talent could struggle to draw audiences, they wanted to really engage fans here. The brief was simple yet challenging: give Malaysian viewers the thrill of a localised extraction mission.

Solution

Netflix presents Pudu Extraction, a companion film designed to give Malaysians a big kick out of seeing a global blockbuster in a local context. So we set the film at an iconic location, signed on popular Malay actors Aaron Aziz, Iedil Dzuhrie, and Fify Azmi, paid homage to our cultural roots, and employed humour that only audiences here would get. Then to truly hammer home the point, not only did we manage to get the leading man himself to star in our film alongside our cast, we even got him to speak our language.
