Brief

It was Chinese New Year, a festive occasion where Chinese all over the world celebrated the advent of spring. For thousands of years, the Chinese marked the passing of years with a 12-animal cycle, each represented by a zodiac animal and 2016 happened to be the Year of the Monkey. It is customary for people to wish festive greetings and send oranges to friends and family for good luck. The brief was to send creative festive greetings to our agency’s stable of clients. The objective was to surprise them with our creativity for top-of-mind recall and to strengthen business relations.

Solution

Since it was the Year of the Monkey, we went bananas! We broke tradition by utilizing the 4 Chinese characters of “Gong Hei Fatt Choi” and tweaking them to “Gong Jiu Fatt Choi.” “Gong Jiu” means banana and it replaced “Gong Hei.” Strung together, “Gong Jiu Fatt Choi” celebrates what the Year of the Monkey is all about. In fact, we also got master artists to monkey around the traditional greetings with their art_on bananas! Their series of traditional festive greetings were recrafted with words pertaining to “Monkey” or “Banana” which gave them a creative twist. The resulting banana art masterpieces were then sent to wish our clients a fruitful year ahead!
