Coming from a photography background and having plied his trade in London, Al returned home to Malaysia and started directing in the year 2000. Since then he has worked with some of the most talented people in the industry, and garnered numerous accolades around the world from New York Film Festival, the Apollo Awards, Kancil Awards, the AEAF in Australia, Cannes, Adfest and other regional and international shows.
His skills as a Film Director has been employed by a wide range of clients for diverse products such as Petronas, Nippon Paint, the National Electric Company, Malaysian Airlines, Sony, Panasonic, Nokia, McDonalds, Astro, Caltex, Citibank, tele-communication companies such as Celcom-Vodafone, Digi, Telekom and many others.
In 2006 he started his own company superwonderful films, which quickly rose along the ranks to become one of the top production houses in Malaysia, winning numerous awards right out of the gate. That year itself they swept many of the top awards in the Kancil Awards and awards at the Citra Pariwara in Indonesia and Creative Circle Award.
While he has a predilection for quirky and odd commercials that break the mold and takes risks, Al’s portfolio of work is broad-ranging from the more dramatic storytelling to big action and animation based executions as well as stylish visual-driven content. He has over the years, developed a notoriety for his is notorious for his constant battles to change challenge the scripts and break free of the tired formulas and conventions.
